The Islamic Waqf in Jaffa announces legal escalation in the case of the Al-Tabiya Mosque.

The head of the Islamic Waqf in Jaffa, lawyer Muhammad Abdullah Drai'i, announced

The Waqf is prepared to take escalatory steps regarding the Al-Tabiya Mosque in the Old City, following sessions held this morning, Thursday (September 25, 2025), at the Central Court in Tel Aviv.

Before Judge Yaakov Shaked. The head of the Waqf explained that today's sessions addressed the case of the Al-Tabiya Mosque, for which the Waqf had previously filed a lawsuit demanding its registration in the name of Muslims. He added that the Custodian of Absentee Property rejected the request to release the mosque, in addition to the opposition of the defendant, the Israel Land Authority. This will prompt the Waqf to escalate the legal action and file a petition with the High Court of Justice to compel the Custodian to reverse his position. This will be done in parallel with the ongoing proceedings in the District Court. He also affirmed that the Waqf will work on preparing the petition and submitting it to the High Court of Justice as soon as possible, and that it is continuing its efforts to preserve the Waqf and holy sites in the city.
